The Things We Do For Love?

A word about 55 Flash Fiction Friday: Sometimes I don't have time or inspiration to write one...but don't let me stop you from doing it. Write a fictional story in 55 words exactly, with at least one main character and a plot. Include visuals if you want to, or use visuals to inspire.
For today, let's just watch and learn, shall we, about bikini waxing....i'm sure there are at least 55 curse words in this film anyway!

Just watch it!

Train Station, Bangalore HNT

In the past, I have seen HNTs of wet footprints on cement, and of footprints in snow, which got me thinking about the HNT that you are not really in, but still it is you. It still tells something about you. So, I did a couple of HNTs like that...you remember Shadow Dance HNT ?

This picture is my HNT this week. The red backpack is mine, and the grey one is Karens. You can see her Canada patch, and my Korea, Om and dancing bears patches. And also, notice the size difference of our two backpacks~ I am 9 inches shorter than Karen.

Of course, we are not in the picture, yet still, it is a self portrait. We are in Bangalore waiting for a train to Mysore. I have had a fever for 5 days. We are laughing at all the men with their cell phones, and crying for the homeless crippled man hobbling along the railroad tracks searching for a scrap to eat. I want to give that man some money and at the same time I see disapproving stares and looks of disgust. I decide they can stare all they want, but when I look again for the homeless man, he is gone.....Oh India.....

We want Platform 9 3/4 immediately!

Who knew platform 9 3/4 was in India!

Happy HNT everyone, wherever you are!

Quit Playing With Your Food HNT!

Ever since high school, when I first laid eyes on a giant food sculpture, I have been hooked on messing with sizes of objects . I love the idea of big things made small, and small things made big. Made from scenery muslin, paint and wire, that 6 foot tall Hersheys chocolate bar made quite an impression on my textilian brain and imagination.
In college, I made a 5 foot square poached egg on toast sculpture, made from burlap, satin, cotton felt and foam rubber, and, while not too tasty, one could say that breakfast item was quite a mouthful!
Now in my life I find myself attracted to size again....I want to make a giant plate of velvet spaghetti, or monstrous fuzzy french fries that can double as pillows, or shrink stuff so small that I am larger than that item. Ok all this size talk is making me hungry.......who's ready for a cheeseburger?

Har har har! Extra DEE LUXE with all the trimmings? Ready or not, here I come! How can I look like such a lady while about to devour that cheeseburger? OK, who's gonna help me with this thing? It too bigga eat!
Happy HNT Everyone and may all your cheeseburgers be giant!
OK and I wouldn't be a business woman if I didn't point out the new linky on my sidebar to my online store, which is brand new! Run on over and check it out! I know you want ruffle pants, G~man, to go with your dupatta!

This Isn't Flying, This Is Falling, With Style!

Logos post today was really fun, all about movie quotes that you often use in everyday life, and so I thought I would steal that idea, because, yes, we do it too. Cheap move, I know....see if you know which films I used.

1. "You better ease up on the linguine"
...while patting belly.
2. "I take it black, like my men"
(I have to work really hard to use this one, since I dont drink coffee.)
3. "We don't need no stinkin' ......"
(fill in the blank)
4. "One minute Im out saving the galaxy, and the next Im sucking down darjeeling with Marie Antoinette and her little sisters."
5. "Aw, it was a Kombat Karl, they killed a Kombat Karl"

Well ok I dont really say that one alot....just wanted to see if you were paying attn.
6. "..so..dominant!
7. "Punk rampant! Scurvy Knave!"
8. "That is the trouble with India!"

9. "You'll like Amy, she's an artist!"
10. "Soylent green is people!"
11. "Marsha Marsha Marsha!"
12. "Don't be late, or no fruit cup!"
Ok just try to imagine, as I did with Logos quotes, just how one would use such quotes in everyday life. It baffles the mind....

...A Box of Chocolates and a Long Stemmed Rose...

I have to tell you all...I am in love......with Rufus!

Isn't he just a dream?
(he's gay Susie, he's gay!)
I Y Rufus!
I have been mainlining Rufus Wainwright for about two weeks now, and there's no sign of stopping. In case you are interested, which can I recommend? Well, in the words of Fortress Guinness, "All of them are great, mate!"
So today, for Musical Monday I present two videos of Rufus performing Leonard Cohens Everybody Knows, and Rufus' own One Man Guy.
I hope you will enjoy them! Have a lovely week.

Be sure to check out that silkscreened T that Rufus is wearing...Debbie Harry and a diamond necklace, LOL!

Ohhhhh Rufus!
Rufus' sister, Martha Wainwright sings on this tune as well, although she sounds kinda, erm, OFF KEY!!. The thing about watching Rufus perform live with his family, is that there is so much faily tension that it is uncomfortable....
anyway.....what a great song and a stellar performance by both Rufus, and erm, I have no idea who the other guy is, but he's also fantastic! Enjoy.

Sigh!!!!!

55 Flash Fiction...whenever!

Everyone wakes so bloody early in this village!
Can't I just sleep late for once,
without sounds of Ramesh's gurgling and spitting,
Smita's singing!
Lakshmi calling her little cats at dawn,
how I hate that!
Here comes that annoying paaniwallah
blabbering through the streets.
And curses! Worst of all
the creaking of chapati carts wheels!
In small villages in India, where the houses are built very close together...you can hear all these waking up sounds in the morning, causing you to want to get out of bed and go take a peek out the window....and you are never disappointed. But then you are awake and sigh....

I hope you will write a 55 today, or at least write something...perhaps a haiku, like Lime does....
Have a lovely weekend!

It was 80 degrees here in Northern California on Sunday March 11th! Wonderful!
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! I haven't got much exciting news, but some visuals from yesterday! I hope you will enjoy them!
Here are two projects that I made in wood shop this semester, my altar, and a matching stool.

Oaty enjoys the sunset.

A rare glimpse of my unusual bedroom!

Hanging out in my bedroom!
So tell me, what sort of unusual things have you got in your life?

What the heck am I looking at there so intently?
While getting our henna tattoos, we were served teas from this stand!
Two cousins, Ramesh and Ramesh.
Ramesh on the right, is the best darn tour guide in Hampi.

Fabric Stash, Bangalore
I feel sorta guilty and stuff about not doing 55Flash Fiction Friday...but if you played or feel like playing, go right ahead! I am totally focused on textiles and wood right now and not able to write...(as if I ever could anyway!) Karen took all these photos, by the way!
ENJOY YOUR WEEKEND!

A Trip To Rikhi Ram Music

Here I am with my friend Sanjay Rikhi Ram, who is the owner of Rikhi Ram Music in Delhi.
I met him and bought a tabla set in 2004. Sanjay runs the shop, and now makes all the instruments in this family run business well known in Delhi for three generations. He makes sitars for Ravi Shankar, Anoushka Shankar, and The Midaevil Punditz are his pals and come over often to jam in his shop, and purchase tablas that have been specially made for them. Apparently, I had just missed them, as there were freshly autographed copies of their latest c/d inside the glass counter.
In the photograph, we are discussing this very special travel sitar that Sanjay designed for professional musicians. It is also a good sitar choice for people that cannot sit cross legged on the floor, or have limited space for keeping a regular gourd backed sitar. The travel sitar is crafted from red cedar and not a gourd, making it much smaller, flatter and sturdier than a gourd sitar.
This man can play the tablas, guitar, sitar, sooranghi, harmonium, and a slew of other Indian instruments that I cannot pronounce. I always get a free concert when I visit Sanjay!

So, do I look nervous in that picture? I should be because I am about to part with 835. US dollars! It's ok, someone was very happy when I got home....

Namaste

By the way, this is my 405th post! WOW!

Thicker Than Thieves

Today I thought I would introduce you to some bloggy pals of mine that I know in real life as well. Some of them are related to me, and some of them I seem to have picked up along the way and am stuck with. I hope you will pop over to their blogs and say hi today!
Amadeus or Sideways Sam, as some of us know him. You might remember this guy from previous posts. He only blogs part time, but let me tell you, this is one interesting fella. Did you know that he has 3000 LP's or something like that? Hey now, don't touch the records, that's vintage vinyl, man! I have known Sam since I was 16...yeah, yeah, that's 30 years, you all know how old I am by now. 30 years, Sam, WHOA!!

Lisa Pizza Miss Pizza is none other than the lovely wife of Amadeus! In her blog, you can read about trips to Catalina, Hearst Castle and wine country. She likes to blog more than her hubby, but she needs some visitors, so get on over to ToKillaMoquingBird and say hi!

Adeleigh One of my favorite persons in the world, this blogger is my niece. She's super cool, an artist, really smart, and just turned 20. Go over there and give her some encouragement, she might blog a bit more.

Amber Could it be that the wonderful Adeleigh has an older and equally lovely sister? Yes, it could be! (My sister has 6 kids, in fact, but that's another story) Amber is the mom of my grand nephew, Sebastian. That's right, you can call me auntiji, but you can't call me grandma yet! She blogs whenever she can fit it in, being the mom of a 2 year old and all! Stop on over to Stone Temple Mom and say hi!

Fortress Guinness Now this is a very special blog pal of mine that I've had the pleasure of meeting, and getting to know in real life. FG used to play in a pretty popular brit band, and sometimes still rocks the dust off his axe these days. If you bop on over to FG's blog, chances are you might catch some cool poetry that he has written in the rough and raunchy style of Chuck Bukowski. Tell him Susie sent you!

Logo I have also had the pleasure of meeting this lovely blogger in real life as well. When she isn't chasing down barrista after closing time in downtown Seattle, she can be found at home with her two sons, affectionately known as Thing One and Thing Two., and her doggy named Ariella. By the way, Logo's blog really belongs to Ariella, (It Really Is A DOGS Life, missy!) but was taken completely over by Logo months ago. Now and then, if we are lucky, we might catch a glimpse of Ariella!
Ok so be sure to stop by and say hi to all these folks who I love very much, and tell em Susie sent you. Will it get you the good seat by the window? Probably not!
Have a lovely week, bloggy peeps!

I Remember You Well At The Chelsea Hotel....

Since you all loved my last post of a Leonard Cohen cover so much, I have another video clip for you from the Im Your Man film. This time it's Rufus Wainwright doing Chelsea Hotel #2. It's just fantastic, I promise, although it's apparent my musical tastes have a way of rubbing some people the wrong way...
I just love Rufus...isn't he a doll?

Check out this bit with Rufus and his pals dancing to Old Whores Diet....it's hilarious! And, if you really like that song, Old Whores Diet, you simply must scrounge up the version of Rufus singing live with Boy George, who's voice is still very lovelyUpdate...Fortress Guinness informs me that it's actually Antony singing with Rufus on Old Whores Diet! Oh goody, even better, and, why am I NOT surprised?
Hey, I can't help it, I am really a fag magnet right now!

I hope you all have a lovely weekend, Peace.
