Sometimes it's easier to share skeletons in the closet when someone else goes first. I want to thank Lime for admitting to being a....a...tie....tie d......Just say it! A tie dyer! And now, I must confess, I was a tie dyer too!
When Mr Ratburn and I lived in Venice Beach, we used to make lots of shirts and stuff to sell at Grateful Dead shows. We made so much money that it supported our Dead Show habit AND paid the rent! Eventually, we were hired by some garment manufacturers in downtown LA, and before we knew it, we were making 500-1000 pieces a week, sometimes even more!
It's a dirty job, but someones gotta do it! (Who am I trying to kid? That job rocked! Can't beat doing art for $$, right Lime?)
It's true. Here's the proof, circa 1988.
Yep, we sure did make tie dyed boxers!
Happy HNT Everyone!

(Be a dyer, be a tie-dyer...
Be a dyer, be a tie-dyer...)
That's great, how fun!
HHNT :)
You know what's funny? I was the world's biggest hippie for like 20 years and I think the whole time I only had two tie-dye shirts. One I made in high school that didn't turn out. Another I got at the Oregon Country Fair about... 1988, after I was working in high-tech.
Nowadays it seems like I help my kids make something tie-died about once a year.
Happy HNT, Susie. You're the boss.

Don't be ashamed. I love your lifestyle choices. Silly and beautiful hippies, you are awesome and I always love stopping by.

A tie-dye spin-off post -- awesome, like when your favourite sitcom generates spin-off of its own. :)
A do like the idea of tie-dye boxers, though - thanks for the idea for a future post . . .
Happy HNT!
love it! sweet old pics.
i actually like tie-dye and dyed all the lets babygrows before they were born.. very cute.
my only objection is when people mix something tie-dyed with rainbows and dolphins and dirty hair. that's a look i cannot fathom.
oops i meant... happy hnt! ;)

That's great you got to make some cash doing something you liked.
I enjoyed going back in the time machine to 1988 and I did notice one thing that hasn't changed with time and that's your awesome smile.

Don't you feel better now that your out of the tie dye closet.
Let your tie dye light shine and be proud of your tie dye

Well, I'm sure glad that I've got the tie dye HNT theme goin on also.
I'd LOVE me some boxers like that!
If indeed I'm wearing boxers...
BTW, Susie? Your Monday pic?

You've been a ::gasp:: tie dy... too? I need my medication...quick! lol! Cheers & Happy HNT!
Oh my, you're a dyer?! If I had known, I would have stopped...um...stopped...wait...no, that's not what I would have done. You know, now that I think about it, I'm not sure I understand why being a dyer is bad. Can someone explain this to me?
Happy HNT!
cool, happy hnt.
Who is the cutest Susie in the whole wide world?
That's right, MINE is!
Love that pic of you and Ratburn.
I went through my tie dye phase in the mid 60s. Happy HNT!
Oooohhhh Tie Dye
Such fun
Those boxer's are way cool! I have a tie-dyed shirt that a friend made for me years ago...it's a custom Green Bay Packer shirt that I just LOOVE!!!! I remember doing shirts when I was little in the 60's and 70's with the neighbors....what fun!
How cool! I remember when everyone was crazy over those pants. HHNT!
Cool cool coolio! Limey made me a couple of dyes that I love. Let me know if you have any "extras" :-)
Hey, Mr Ratburn has hair in those pics! Nope, can't beat a fun job that pays well.
Oh, and 'cause you asked so nice...check me out at rustyshackle.blogspot.com
I have proof of you tye dying habbit too. I remember visiting you at some house, with a pool, and there was a room with washing machines or tubs or something like that full of dye. I'm not sure about how accurate that memory was. Must have been 20 years ago.
oh ya. Ozone right?
Nice photos. I never did find a good way to support my touring, although I considered selling grilled cheese sandwiches. ;-)
Happy HNT!
Funny how tie-dye and the Dead go together. I got my two-and-only tie-dye shirts at a Dead show in North Carolina, circa 1984. So glad I saw Jerry before he passed. The show rocked. I danced for hours with people I'd never met.
Thanks for the memory!
