They Might Be Giants HNT & 55Flash Fiction Friday

Since so many of you are becoming interested in 55 Flash Fiction, I thought I'd better post something today even though I am going to Seattle, my flights at 7 am, and I am not packed yet! So, here is one of my favorite 55's, in which Shakuntula gets her revenge....... and since Barman went to all the trouble to find my first 55, and the post that explains it, I will also include it HERE.

For what felt like the millionth time, Shaku knelt before husband and set the tea tray on the table. Eyes lowered, she served him the plate of sweets. "Mysore Pak!", he squealed delightedly, and while he was completely distracted by this luscious treat, Shaku slipped the poison powder from her saree and into husbands chai.

When I was 4, we moved from Southern California to Kodiak, Alaska. My dad was in the Navy so they sent him up on a military plane but had my mom drive to Seattle where we then flew to Alaska from there. Didn't they have any planes to Alaska from Los Angeles then? I mean, why did my mom have to drive.....anyway...so it was the worlds fair at the time, and now you can tell how old I am....

Long story short, I got stuck in an elevator alone, lost in some giant hotel. My strongest memory is of the red flocked wallpaper and red carpet in the hallways where I wandered, sobbing, looking for my mom. Thankfully, a nice man brought me down to the lobby where I was reunited with my panicked mom. In those days you could still get lost and not end up on the back of a milk carton. (Have you seen me?)

The other thing I would NOT do at that fair was go up in the Needle. Are you kidding me? That huge round thingy balanced on a stick like thing is gonna hold us up? NO Im not going up there. Still haven't. I am scared to. So, I decided that the only way to tackle this fear of the SpaceNeedle, or Seattlephobia, as some call it, was to become larger than the needle. Much larger as you can see.
Place your bets, I'm going to Seattle this weekend to see Lo and The Idiot. Will she ride the tiger? Will she not? Will she, at 46 years old, and her umpteenth visit to Seattle, finally get up there in the Needle?

HHNT and have a wonderful weekend!

I do hope you go to the top to see it. It's absolutely breathtaking! As long as it's a decent day and not all socked in my clouds. You can see forever!

Love your photos and happy trails to you ;o)

I haven't seen you on a milk carton, but I do think I've seen a picture of you on the wall at the Post Office. (just kidding).

Hey Susie! I love the pics..good job! I can't bet on you, I am sorry because I have a fear of heights and that space needle just looks way to high and unstable to me. Actually we have one here in Gatlinburg that is a much smaller version of that one and I have never been up in it because I am skeered!

Only do what you feel comfortable doing!

perhaps you could try something a wee bit more substantial for your first time up...how about our lovely CN Tower? it looks a tad more solid than the Space Needle...even the word Needle might be a bit foreboding...
but SN hasnt fallen yet, so you've got that working in your favour!

ps...thank you for hosting 55FFF, Susie...i finally tried one. pictures help. i appreciate exercises of the mind, and might tell my depressed 80 year old dad about this challenge...he always loved playing with words and languages...this might suitably distract him and be therapeutic in the process. thank you Susie!
