55Flash Fiction Friday

With her husband she owned the local brewpub.
He was her daughters long haired jr high music teacher.
When this thing ended, they would clandestinely meet. In a small town, this was wrong. They could not help themselves.
Let the PTA find out .
Damn that open mike night at the brewpub that started it all!
~
He he! Definitely fiction this week folks! I just got back from my daughters school orientation meeting, and Logo, that scamp suggested I write my 55 tonight about some scandalous imaginary affair in order to make this 2 hour meeting pass faster. Well, I could barely keep from laughing my head off as I scanned the room looking for victims! Honestly people, I live in a town of 7,800 people...this was truly fun! (I know about some real life scandals in this town as well, but I am not sayin!)
And BTW Logo has written like 5 ~55's.....that's a tricky way to get away with typing 275 words, missy! Go check that over achiever out!

If you wrote a 55 today, let me know and I'll send the posse over. If you want to know more about it, click the cool button over there on my sidebar that Barman made for me!
Have a lovely weekend, people!

Sometimes A Great Notion

Sometimes you're the windshield, sometimes you're the bug.

Sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don't.

Sometimes people are left speechless by strange posts that Susie makes! LOL Sorry people, i'm in a creative wierdo mood! See you for HNT!

~

Pretty things, so what if I like pretty things

Pretty lies, so what if I like pretty lies

From where you are, to where I am now

I need these pretty things, around the planets of my face

Everything's a sign of my astrology

From where you are, to where I am now

Is its own galaxy

Be a star and fall down somewhere next to me

And make it past your color TV

This time will pass and with it will me

And all these pretty things

Don't say you don't notice them

What's That Small Pitter~pat?

This is one of my all time favorite Sesame Street Videos from the late 60's. It's just precious, I hope you will enjoy it!

In other news, I have been sewing like mad, there seems to be a bloomer trend in my town, and it's all my fault!
Today is the first day of school for Little Rita, who is now in the 6th grade, which is officially jr high, or middle school as some of us call it.
School has already started for Mr Ratburn, so you know what that means! Yes, it's true, I am alone once again... just me and the cat.
If you hear some snorin' coming from the yurt, it's just me recuperating after a long busy summer!

All together now....AWWWWWWWWW!!

They Had Two Sets Of Arms, They Had Two Sets Of Legs....

Image hosting by Photobucket
Today on Musical Monday, I have chosen a song from the film Hedwig and the Angry Inch. If you haven't yet seen this film, and you aren't allergic to gay...you really oughta. Of course, the Ratburn and I were lucky enough to catch the live version of Hedwig, twice, and may I say, what a show it was, folks! Not to be missed.
Now, in case you are interested, and I know you are, Rufus has also recorded a cover of this tune, and I will include it also...however, you won't have to watch it, just listen, as it's a really lame ass homemade video!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BYQGgl-quVg

(The Rufus Wainwright cover, I know you are all rushing over there to see it!)

Have a lovely Monday everyone, and WDKY, fabulous news about your mum!

The Origins Of Love

Last time I saw you
We had just split in two.
You were looking at me.
I was looking at you.
You had a way so familiar,
But I could not recognize,
Cause you had blood on your face;
I had blood in my eyes.
But I could swear by your expression
That the pain down in your soul
Was the same as the one down in mine.
That's the pain,
Cuts a straight line
Down through the heart;
We called it love

Cats In The Cradle....

I worked at my store today and then afterwards, played computer games with Little Rita for awhile, but it wasnt long before I was nodding off on the couch. I decided to go take a short nap. It was very short...like 20 minutes, because I wanted to hang out with my daughter some more. Ok, nap over, so I open my bedroom door, step out, and she's there, all ready to go out, and then with a big kiss and a hug, said, "bye mom, I'm going to Mollys."
But, but, but.....
Then off she went, all happy.
Cats in the cradle and the silver spoon, little boy blue and the man in the moon....

55Flash Fiction Friday

I'm thinking of pancakes, tortillas and chapatis
Fried eggs and pizzas, also come to mind
and frisbees sailing through the air
Dough that my grandma would roll out for her pies
Even play~doh is treated better
and in the end, gets to be a doggy, or a flower
and not just a cold smashed breast.
~
Heh heh, guess what I did yesterday? Get em checked, ladies! BTW that doll up there is called Mammogram, check out her bosoms! LOL...I'm telling ya....the things we go through for our health...
Well it's Friday already again folks! Let me know if you played and I will be sure to send the posse over. If you want to know more about Flash Fiction, check the button on my sidebar.
Have A Lovely Weekend!

Adrift At Sea HNT

After the shipwreck which left all but one dead, Susie floated for days in the Arabian Sea, her skin burning in the sun, her lips parched, not knowing when, if ever, she would be saved, if she would ever taste samosa again, if her feet would ever again touch dry land.......

"Oh Mom, you're such a loser...you're NOT shipwrecked, sheesh!"

Hey! I can pretend if I wanna can't I?

Happy HNT Everyone!

Let's go see what Mr Ratburn is up to.....

What's New, Pussycat?

Excuse me, but isn't that Susie's computer?
Don't worry Oaty~Sue, by this time next week, we'll have the entire house back to ourselves once again!

That's right just you and me and my computer. Why yes, I know I have a junky desk. Go ahead and click for biggen, and you can see all the weird stuff I have strewn about my desk. I already looked, theres nothing incriminating.

Oh for crying out loud. Try not to look so excited about all this back to school nonsense, eh Oaty?
Have a lovely week, people!

And when the sun comes up, I'll be on top....

Image hosting by Photobucket A couple of weeks ago, a friend of mine asked me what I thought was the best song ever recorded. Wanting to be spontaneous with my answer, but still being sure to select a most excellent and tasty song, here is what popped into my head.

96 Tears by Question Mark and the Mysterians.

Let me tell you, this is a tasty little tune, and if you are wondering...what? This isnt Rufus, OR Tori, Leonard Cohen, or Bally Jagpal, so, what gives? Let's just say I have lotsa musical influences, ok, and I have been carrying this tune around with me like an old friend ever since I first heard it.
I do believe this was the only successful release for this one hit wonder of a band!

Anyway, I hope you'll enjoy it, and the super cool ancient video that I found of The Mysterians in their 60's finery.
Have a lovely week, everyone!

55Flash Fiction Friday

For 3 summers now, Sam and Jenny were junior counselors at Camp Willow Creek. Three years of coaching baseball teams, KP in the cafeteria, late nights out on the hillside watching shooting stars. Miles of hikes turned into millions of special thoughts shared.
This year they both met Johnny. Things were about to change forever.
~
I'm late, I know! Tell you what...can you write the 55 for me today? Let me know if you played, and I will send the posse' over. If you want to know more about 55 Flash Fiction, you can click that 55 button on my sidebar, which will take you to all sorts of flash fiction information.

Panty Sale HNT and 500th post!

Hi everyone! Well first of all I just wanna say, that I just realized this is my 500th post! I can't decide if that's a good thing, or if I just need to get a life. But anyway so be it, 500 blog posts since erm, I think March of 2005.
~
Now on to the HNT portion of our evening. A couple of weeks ago, I happened upon the semi annual "Vickis" panty sale! This was a particularly good thing, because as some of my five faithful readers will recall, I recently tossed all my granny panties in celebration of losing 40 pounds. Ok, I so scored like, 20 pair of the cutest undies, and all on sale!!! Hurray!

Soooo, you wanna see em? I'll just bet you do........

...along the way the colors ran, the orange bled the blue.....

Some things just deserve a second look! Aren't these crayons just fabulous? If you would like to learn more about Pete Goldlust, the artist that created these crayons, go here.

I had a box of crayons,
All shiny, straight and new.
I lent a friend one crayon,
And--oops--it broke in two!
My friend said she was sorry,
But I said "I don't care,
'cause now we both can color
with one crayon--we can share!

Sharing can be fun!

So Here I Am In This Uniform, This Pantsuitish Sorta Thing, Lookin At the Art Teacher....

Recently, I had to take Little Rita out for some school supplies. Man, what modern stuff they have these days! Everything comes in pink, purple, neon green, glow in the dark, you name it, they got it.
Anyway, that got me thinking about some of the school supplies that we had when I was growing up. Nothing too fancy, just your basic stuff such as that number two pencil over there, freshly sharpened to release the aroma of cheap pencil wood.

Or this black and white composition notebook. Perfect for taking notes, or just doodling while the teacher rambles on and on about equilateral triangles. I was quite the doodler in school, filling all the margins and backsides of my papers with important scribbles. Well hey, I already knew all about equilateral triangles!

Who can forget the PEE CHEE folder and how much fun it was to doodle all over that thing as well. We used to get them for as little as 10 cents a piece. (I'm older than you, ok?)
There were certain things you had to do to the pee chee to make it cool and one of them was this:

We used to write "Love is Pee~Chee but sex is an all season sPORTfolio" We all knew SO MUCH about sex of course! LOL

And then, last but not least, the Pink Pearl eraser. I saw the most fun film on Mr Rogers Neighborhood once, where they showed how these erasers are made. What fun, I'm telling you! Why, I think just working all day with that color of pink would be just a ball!

Ok kids, now, can you believe it that I am so old, that in my elementary school, teachers were allowed to spank us if we were naughty? It's true. I had this horrible 2nd grade teacher, who, if one student misbehaved, would then make us all stand up and she would smack our bottoms with a ruler. Oh man, if I could relive that school year, I would have snatched that ruler right out of her hand and wacked her right back with it!
~
So now, tell me about your favorite old school supplies, or some school tale, and do have a lovely Tuesday everyone!

***UPDATE***
Ok, Lime's comment has reminded me that I forgot crayons! Is the 8 pack in the proper rainbow order for you, Lime dear?

And then, I found these babies while googling the proper rainbow ordered 8 pack for Lime

I See You There With The Rose In Your Teeth...

Image hosting by Photobucket. For this weeks Musical Monday selection I have chosen Leonard Cohens Famous Blue Raincoat, the Tori Amos version. This is an excellent sounding vid, however, the end of the song is missing, but I thought the quality was worth the tradeoff. Tori baby, you know you rock my world.
Then if you dare, another lovely Leonard Cohen tune called Tonight Will be Fine, performed by Teddy Thompson, who, BTW is the son of Richard Thompson. This man has an awesome voice, I hope you will enjoy it.
And then, since this is WDKY's game, I thought I oughta do more like him and explain why I chose these songs. Well, you see, it's like this....
....aw, just go on and watch em! Bad enough some hosers gonna come along about now and accuse me of liking "mellow music", right G~man?
Have a lovely Monday!

Famous Blue Raincoat

Tonight Will Be Fine

Oh! And before I go, Logo has reminded me that today is International Left Handers' Day! So go out there and give all those lefties you know a big hug and a handshake with your left hand. That does include me, of course. Yes, yes, I AM a lefty, it's true.

Karenji, No Longer "My Straightest Friend", and Other Stuff...

Remember this post, in which we discuss all the "ehing " going on around here since my month long trip to India with Karen, who is Canadian?
Well, let it not be said that some of ME didn't rub off onto Madam Karen.
~
Need a closer look?

"I will NEVER do that to my nose," I think I once heard you exclaim, my dear. Well, you look marvelous! When do we get to put in the giant silver ring?

~

In other news, some cool dahlias in my yard......

Oh, and Mr Ratburn is back, and would really like to discuss this weeks HNT, so I'll be running along now.....
Have a lovely day everyone!

55Flash Fiction Friday

Cootie Tag

Chasing Barty through the field, Jenny dodged thistles and knee high grass.
Her hair caught in the weeds, her heart pounded against her chest, yet still she managed to catch him. "You're it!", she hollered and grabbed his plaid shirt, spinning him around.
Her left hand smacked Barty in the mouth, and his tooth fell into his hand.

~
Sorry Ive been such a flake lately. I will try to be more responsible. If you want to know more about 55 Flash Fiction, go here. Let me know if you played, and I will come over and check it out. Might be nice if you all then go check each other out as well!

I Ain't A Soft And Saccharine Wannabe.....

Still leaning on the table.....waiter, another whiskey please....
In My Arms

You gave me all your love in one day
You gave it all and almost faded away
I'm going to take this sad and unread issue
In my arms tonight
Looking at hospitals victorian
Feeling as helpless as the elephant man
Wish you were here
To chain you up without shame
In my arms tonight

So if you should feel a bit out of place
This vision not unlike a shooting star
I have embraced

Cause you gave me all your love in one day
You gave it all and almost faded away
I'm going to take this sad and unread issue
In my arms tonight
Looking at hospitals victorian
Feeling as helpless as the elephant man
Wish you were here
To chain you up and without shame
In my arms tonight

I ain't a soft and saccharine wannabe
Still i pray to god this song will end happily
So i offer you a place to rest and forget yourself
In my arms tonight

A place to rest and forget yourself
In my arms
Tonight

All These Poses of Classical Torture.....

Image hosting by Photobucket Why yes, yes I have chosen a Rufus Wainwright tune for todays Musical Monday selection. This song is called Poses, and here we get to see Rufus in his long haired, not even 30 years old yet phase. Can you say, deliciousness? I hope you will enjoy it as much as I do. I just adore this song.

As most of you know, I have seen Rufus three times in the past week. (Yes, talking to him for 58 seconds and shaking his hand counts as seeing!) If you thought I was a fan before, I am now totally, and hopelessly gone on him!

Listening to this tune, I feel like i'm in a smoke filled piano bar, leaning heavily on my table....twirling my finger in my whiskey glass, drowning my sorrows....the entire scene filmed in black and white, except for my lips....bright red.

Corrnnnyyy!

By the way, the Saturday night show was also tremendous! More later, betas.

The yellow walls are lined with portraits
And I've got my new red fetching leather jacket
All these poses such beautiful poses
Makes any boy feel like picking up roses

There's never been such grave a matter
As comparing our new brand name black sunglasses
All these poses such beautiful poses
Makes any boy feel as pretty as princes

The green autumnal parks conducting
All the city streets a wondrous chorus singing
All these poses oh how can you blame me
Life is a game and true love is a trophy

And you said
Watch my head about it
Baby you said watch my head about it
My head about it
Oh no oh no oh no
Oh no oh no no kidding

Reclined amongst these packs of reasons
For to smoke the days away into the evenings
All these poses of classical torture
Ruined my mind like a snake in the orchard
I did go from wanting to be someone now
I'm drunk and wearing flip - flops on Fifth Avenue

Once you've fallen from classical virtue
Won't have a soul for to wake up and hold you

In the green autumnal parks conducting
All the city streets a wondrous chorus
Singing all these poses now no longer boyish
Made me a man ah but who cares what that is

And you said watch my head about it
Baby you said watch my head about it
My head about it
Oh no oh no oh no
Oh no oh no well you said
Watch my head about it
Baby you said watch my head about it
My head about it
Oh no oh no

no kidding

Have a Fabulous Weekend!

One of Thursday night's special treats coming at ya....Rufus Wainwright performing Across the Universe with none other than Sean Lennon....what a very special moment...the first time they had ever performed this song together, and I got to be there!
And um yes, Rufus is wearing a bathrobe...forget about that...you oughta see what was under it, that's what really counts! Enjoy!
I'm off to Saratoga to see Rufus again this evening...have a great weekend!

Excuse me, I'm With Rufus.....HNT

***UPDATE***I do not have my 55 thing together people! Rufus is in town, what can I say?
Please go tell G~man that you played.
Tonight, Thursday, I am seeing Rufus Wainwright in Santa Rosa. Mr Ratburn and I have 3rd row center, seats. Am I thrilled? You bet I am!
This is me listening to Rufus' sound check in Seattle on Sunday afternoon. Yeah, I know I look like a bloody groupie....I didn't even know he was there until I got to Seattle last week. Rufus playing in MY hotel? I couldn't just let that alone, could I? Besides, the acoustics in that bathroom are great!
Happy HNT, and have a lovely Thursday.
